We have developed SIMATEC, a Living Simulator" and a "Hands-On Training Solution". As a Living Simulator, it offers real-time, interactive experiences, allowing students to experiment with various production scenarios, technologies, and variables. The system dynamically adapts to changes, mimicking real-world manufacturing processes while offering the flexibility to modify setups quickly and easily.
As a Hands-On Training Solution, it integrates key Industry 4.0 technologies such as PLC, RFID, IoT, Bluetooth, Artificial Vision, Cobots, and AMRs. This creates an immersive environment where students actively engage with these technologies, gaining valuable practical experience in production automation and the integration of advanced systems.
The system is designed to be highly flexible and configurable. Its modular structure allows for easy addition or removal of stations, enabling the creation of countless configurations to meet different production needs. This flexibility ensures that the system can accommodate various levels of automation, from basic to highly advanced setups.
The core purpose of this system is educational: it aims to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience in automation and manufacturing. By using the system, students can bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. They can directly observe how their decisions impact operational performance, giving them a clear understanding of the technologies and processes at play. This makes the system an effective tool for teaching the principles of Industry 4.0 in a practical, hands-on way, while preparing students for future careers in manufacturing and automation fields.
There are four lines of research:
- Testing the capabilities of SIMATEC using current methods such as FMEA and creating new protocols for sampling SIMATEC features
- Creating models and dashboards for data analytics to compare operational performance at different levels of evolution in Industry 4.0
- Develop operational scenarios to test the combination and best practices of opex methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, AMEF, etc at different levels of Industry 4.0 maturity
